As babies grow into toddlers they start to need less sleep during the day and this will begin to cause disruptions to your own carefully contrived routines.
The time you set aside for a nap is now interrupted by a baby who wants your attention and is determined to get it. The upside of course is that baby now needs more sleep at night, about 11 hours, so you can pretty soon start to get your own life back into a more normal routine.
When Sleeping Patterns Change
When baby begins to change his or her sleeping patterns there may be a period of adjustment. A cranky baby can often have difficulty getting to sleep at night. Babies nearly always want to make the rules – it’s part of growing and learning to deal with life’s challenges – but you will need to set a few rules yourself if life is to be less challenging and more satisfying for you.
Here’s a tip or two to make the transition from infant to toddler easier and less stressful for all concerned.
Toddler Bedtime
If your toddler won’t go to bed unless you stay with him till he falls asleep he’s forming a bad habit that will be difficult to break later. Help him learn the rules by following a routine that teaches him what to expect at night. This could be bath time followed by a story and then a soft night light or music to soothe him to sleep. Let him know he’s safe and that you will be coming back to check on him.
It’s a good idea to leave the room promptly after saying ‘goodnight’, then wait ten minutes or so before going back. Don’t stay around and be talked into prolonging the night time routine. If you are worried about doing this you can take comfort from watching your toddler on a baby monitor to make sure he/she is not too distressed.
Often it’s just a battle for control. Your toddler wants to control her environment as much as possible. You can’t force her to fall asleep. Try reverse psychology and tell her she doesn’t have to go to sleep, but can play in the crib. Eventually, she’ll fall asleep on her own and this will become part of the nightly routine she comes to accept.

This is a great new baby monitor product that allows you to switch between live views of your baby and your favorite pictures – either video or stills. The 7 inch screen is large enough to show baby and your photos side by side and the video below suggests there are lots of reasons why you might want to do this.
What are the main features?
The manufacturer tells us the product comes with:
DECT/DECT 6.0 wireless technology
480 x 234 pixel resolution with live video-in-picture viewing
Snap photos from camera to memory card (SD; MMC; SDHC); plus create your own slide shows
Out-of-range alert and programmable on/off time
Clock; alarm and calendar functions
The Motorola Video Baby Monitor also includes a temperature display that will show you the temperature in baby’s room, or wherever the camera is situated.
DECT technology ensures that the signals are clear and will not be interrupted by outside interference from other wireless devices.
The out-of-range alert tells you when the camera/monitor has been placed too far away from the receiver.
Is this the best baby monitoring system for your needs?
If on the other hand you simply want a visual image of the child either sleeping or playing and you are content to switch views from camera to photo frame then you will find this model answers your needs while providing you with a great piece of home decor.
Digital picture frame
The digital picture frame runs either video or stills and that function provides you with a great way of storing and displaying memories.
Alternative uses for the Motorola Video Baby Monitor
As the video suggests, the monitor can be placed anywhere around the home within range. When the children no longer need monitoring, use it as a safety device positioned to watch the swimming pool, perhaps, or to know who has arrived at the front door.

It’s always nice to have multiple functions from one product. We are also thinking about adding a second camera so that we can see what is happening in the back yard with our dog.
